Hey garden followers! On Friday we hosted a volunteer event, where participants helped us with weeding, harvesting strawberries, and filling new beds with rich compost. After we worked in the garden, we enjoyed the delicious flavors of summer BBQ! We ate strawberries from our garden, and grilled up a storm of burgers, veggie burgers, and hot dogs. Thanks to all who came and helped/ate/hung out with us!
Above is a picture of grillmaster Abby (a summer garden staff member) and Ian (an avid volunteer!)
We also spent the past week germinating a bunch of seeds to give our garden a little leg up to make up for its late start. Here is a photo of some beautiful germinating beet seeds, ready to be planted!
We now have kale, lettuce, radishes, beets, butternut squash, and zucchini seedlings! We also found some hardy squash growing in our compost pile! They are now also residing in our lovely garden. Thanks, composters!
Our tomato plants are sad about so much rain, but still surviving! Above is a picture of some of the young plants.
