7/20, Tomatoes and Chard

I harvested a few pints worth of Sungold Cherry tomatoes this morning. Their deep yellow, orange color provides for a sweet snack with a well rounded flavor and balanced acidity. I also harvested a few bunches of Swiss chard. Chard is a leafy green packed full of nutrients. It is often difficult to incorporate into most dishes for the mature stalks and leaves have a rather bitter taste. The young greens can be used in salads but chard is most commonly prepared using the sauteed mature greens.

Both of the items in this week’s harvest were sold to Bon Apetit Management Company at Oberlin College Campus Dining Services.
