6/17 First Harvest!

The garden yielded its first harvest today: fresh basil. An aromatic herb in the mint family, Lamiaceae, Genovese basil is a wonderful amendment to an assortment of culinary ventures.

The basil was sold to Bon Apetit Management Company ( http://www.bamco.com/ ) at Oberlin College Campus Dining Services ( http://www.oberlin.edu/cds/ ). Special thanks to Chef Dean at Stevenson Dining Hall for kicking off what will be a healthy partnership between Campus Dining and the Garden. Try out the basil firsthand in the fresh house made pesto that is regularly at the dining halls. Stay tuned in for more local foods as the harvest carries on.
